First and foremost chess should be fun! This is the ethos of Ojays, the Oxfordshire Junior Squad Chess Club. We meet weekly on Thursdays between 6.15pm and 8pm, either in person or online, to develop young chess players in preparation for county tournaments and individual competitions.

OJAYS BUGHOUSE TOURNAMENT

Thursday 28 November 2019       18:30 – 20:30 latest (may finish earlier if we start on time)
Cumnor Primary School

To finish this term, the last Ojays session will be a special event open to all existing full-subs-paying members (whether attendees at Yarnton, Cumnor or both) for free and to those who are eligible to be members but have not signed up this season, for the one-off “event temporary membership fee” of £5 per person.

Bughouse, also known as Exchange Chess, is a chess variant played under Blitz chess conditions in teams of two where pieces captured on one board are handed to the other team member and may be placed on their board in lieu of moving a piece. There are various different rules governing the game, but we will be (largely) following the most official ones which are written by the USCF:
http://www.uschess.org/images/stories/scholastic_chess_resources/2018bugrules.pdf.
One key point to note is that “touch-move” does not apply, rather “clock-move.”

In order to enter, please register as teams of two beforehand via email to Charlotte Rayner (cc Andrew Varney) up until 07:00 on Thursday 28 November, or in person at 18:15 at the venue. Entrants should provide a team name as well as names of the two players making up that team.
If individuals are interested in playing but do not have a team, we will attempt to pair them with somebody else suitable (ideally before the event itself). Small prizes will be presented to the winning team(s).

There will also be a small prize giving for best games in the Parents vs Children match from the end of last term (July 2019).
