First and foremost chess should be fun! This is the ethos of Ojays, the Oxfordshire Junior Squad Chess Club. We currently meet weekly in person, during term time, to develop young chess players in preparation for county tournaments and individual competitions.

Ojays Win Midland Counties Championship

Ojays Success - Midland Counties Championships

Oxfordshire Junior Chess Success

Congratulations to the Oxfordshire Junior Chess teams (the Ojays) for their impressive performances at the recent Midland Counties Championships in Nottingham. It was a weekend of high tension and excellent sportsmanship across all age groups.

Ojays U11s managed to retain their title in dramatic fashion. After a hard-fought competition, they finished level on match points with a strong Warwickshire side, ultimately securing 1st place by the narrowest of margins — just half a game point. This is the second consecutive year the team has brought home the trophy!

Ojays U9s also performed admirably throughout the event. Facing tough opposition from Leicestershire and Warwickshire, the team showed great resolve to achieve a podium finish in a very creditable 3rd place.

Well done to all the players, team managers and parents who made this success possible. We look forward to seeing many of these players representing the county in the upcoming EPSCA qualifiers.
